Mokwena Gives Zungu Update

Rulani Mokwena has confirmed that midfielder Bongani Zungu is training with Wydad Athletic Club but is far off from the rest of the squad fitness wise.

Mokwena had over 20 new players at Wydad as he is in the process of awakening the sleeping giant of Moroccan football, with the possible addition of Zungu, which is still pending, set to strengthen his midfield options.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns duo worked together for several seasons at Chloorkop winning plenty of silverware including the recent Betway Premiership title.

Mokwena explained that Zungu needs a lot of time, and he still needs to adjust because the Moroccan league is a different ball game altogether, also admitting that Zungu being multilingual would be beneficial to the group.

“Zungu is not ready yet,” Rulani told the media.

“Zungu needs the whole pre-season, so we are trying to catch up a little bit and make sure that he’s physically ready.

“He is training with us and he’s doing well.”

“He is a very good player and a great human being. He helps us because he speaks English, French, Portuguese.

“He played in Portugal so can talk a little bit with Pedrinho in French, he can talk a little bit to Audori in Portuguese, he can talk with the rest of his teammates in French because he played in Ligue 1 for Amiens of course he speaks English.

“We understand why we brought him and hopefully he will be ready. This is a very difficult league, and he will have to adjust physically.”
