Mokwena Reacts To 4-1 Thrashing With Wydad

Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena leapt to the defence of his players after the team’s 4-1 home loss to MAS de Fez.

After a good run of seven matches unbeaten, Wydad suffered their heaviest defeat at home in the last decade after being reduced to 10 men inside 11 minutes.

Mokwena urged the blame not to be shifted upon his players as he’s the one selecting the team and coaching the club after MAS de Fez did the double over Wydad this season.

“Anything I say will sound like excuses, so let me just apologize to the Wydad family, everybody, when the team loses it’s the coach’s fault and I put up my hand and I come in front and apologize,” Mokwena said.

“Please don’t blame the players, blame the coach, I choose the line-up, so it’s my fault and I take full responsibility.

“As a club, we know where we are but as I said to you. first I need to look at myself, my line-up, my subs, my training and preparation, I will always protect players, in my previous club I protected the players, and I will do that till my last day at Wydad, always, always.

“If there’s anyone to blame… not if… I am to be blamed, I take the responsibilities on my shoulders, I want to stay and change things, and help the club see better days. Of course I have the energy, the fighting spirit, but first we have to acknowledge where we are and the responsibility falls on my shoulders.”
