Zimbabwe national team captain Marshall Munetsi was full of confidence during the press conference in Nigeria ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifier clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Warriors played to a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the first round in South Africa with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring for the Super Eagles while Knowledge Musona netted for the Warriors.
A win for the hosts would see them put themselves in the chasing pack as they currently sit in fourth place with six points, while Zimbabwe needs to get a win to keep their qualifying chances alive as they are rooted bottom of Group C with three points after five matches.
Captain Munetsi believes that for them to qualify they need to start getting maximum points as they dropped points in the past games. The Wolves midfielder also promised football supporters that the clash against Nigeria would be a good game of football and that they’re not in Nigeria for holidays.
“Nigeria is a much bigger country in terms of football, but Zimbabwe qualifying for the FIFA World Cup is more historical for us than Nigeria qualifying,” Munetsi told the media.
“That’s why I think the guys want to do something historical, something that has never been done by our country.
“This is something that is gonna drive us, something that is gonna give us the energy to compete obviously, we didn’t start the qualifiers as we would have wanted, and we lost some points away, but obviously, us we don’t have the privilege like Nigeria playing home games at home. As much as the crowd is gonna be there, it’s also gonna be good for us because we have guys playing internationally.
“I think it’s gonna be a good match of football, I hope you guys will enjoy it also you must know that we are not here for a holiday, but we are here also to try to make our history by all necessary.”
