Ncikazi – A Good Start

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has reacted to his side’s win over JS Saoura in the CAF Confederations Cup match.

The Buccaneers secured an important victory after they edged the Algeria’s JS Saoura 2-0 at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday evening.

Ncikazi was pleased to get off to a winning start against a very good team in Saoura.

“A good start,” Ncikazi said at the post match press conference.

“We’ve always wanted to start with a win, the competition determines that you need to start well, because if you go away, you don’t know what to expect, especially when you play in Africa.

“Happy for the players, happy for their effort. I thought we did the right thing by scoring, but I thought maybe scoring early, there were moments where there was a bit of panic in our team.

“But I thought maybe with the subs, we stabilised, we got better.

“Important to get the second goal. And I thought after that we control the game well. But I thought today we had a very strong defensive game.

“The preparedness from the whole team in assisting this, this is a good team, this Saoura team is a very good team. Multifunctional in what we analysed and so exactly what they presented, and you will think they will play in a block when they’re playing away from home ,but they just played an open game.

“But I think we coped well, happy for the team that it’s a good start.

“We just have to focus on our next assignment which is Golden Arrows on Wednesday.”

Pirates are back in action in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday when they face Arrows.
