The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed the appointment of José Peseiro as the successor to Gernot Rohr.
The former FC Porto and Al Ahly head coach replaces the German who was sacked two weeks ago but he will not oversee the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
His appointment comes after NFF president Amaju Pinnick claimed he sought references from Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger for their next appointment.
Rohr departed as Nigeria’s longest-serving manager after nearly six years in charge and guided them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON.
The NFF confirmed interim coach Augustin Eguavoen will lead the Super Eagles in Cameroon next month while the Portuguese tactician will serve as an observer during the continental showpiece.
