Pitso Mosimane has backed Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib after he announced his candidacy for another term and also pleaded for more patience from the club’s fans.
Khatib has been the one who brought the South African coach to Cairo and praised him in the speech for his candidacy as one of the top 50 coaches in the world.
Mosimane, meanwhile, told the club’s tv channel that he fully believes in the vision of ‘Captain Bibo’.
“I liked to see the vision of El-Khatib, where they started, where they are now, and where they are going. It shows that the future is bright,” Pitso said.
“El-Khatib brought me here for the international program, he saw a vision through me, he brought me here, and I feel proud that I made a small contribution, it’s humbling.
“This is football, we can’t get 100% of what we want, but we are growing the team and we are getting bigger, I am happy to be a part of that.”
He also insisted that Al Ahly will not be able to lift every trophy on offer but he has a much better team this season and also understands Egyptian football better now.
“We need to believe in what we have, we have a much stronger team than the one we had last year, I’ve been here for only twelve months, let me settle and give me a chance,” he added.
“Now I understand Egyptian football more, I had experience on the continental level but I am new to Egyptian football.
“They (the fans) must be patient with me and I am going to do my best and I will get them what I think they can get.”
Mosimane and Al Ahly face USGN in the second leg of their CAF Champions League second-round tie on Saturday.
