Pitso Mosimane has announced Al Ahly’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup and included Percy Tau despite his recent injury.
The South African winger picked up an anterior muscle injury, with the club confirming he’s ruled out for four weeks.
However, Tau has made the 22-man squad for the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, the club announced on its website.
“It is important to note that Percy Tau, our attacking midfielder, will travel with the team to continue his recovery program in the UAE,” Al Ahly state.
Al Ahly, though, will be without several key players, including the likes of Mohamed El-Shennawy, Ayman Ashraf, Mohamed Abdelmoneim, Hamdi Fathi, Amr El-Sulya, and Mohamed Sherif, who are all still at the African Cup of Nations, while Akram Tawfik, Salah Mohsen and Badr Benoun are all injured.
There were also some positive team news for Mosimane, with Mali’s Aliou Dieng and Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul being available after their teams got knocked out of AFCON.
Al Ahly will start their CWC campaign against CONCACAF champions Monterrey and would face Copa Libertadores winners Palmeiras in a potential semi-final.
Mosimane has made the Club World Cup one of his main priorities at Al Ahly and wants to go one better than picking up a bronze medal last time around.
