Pitso Pledges Future To Al Ahly

Pitso Mosimane has pledged his future to Al Ahly after celebrating a historic third place at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The South African coach wrote his name into the club’s and football’s history books, becoming the first African manager to win back-to-back bronze medals at the tournament.

He saw his side run riot against Asian champions Al Hilal, beating them 4-0 in Saturday’s third-place playoff.

After the game, Mosimane all but ended the speculation around his future at the club, saying he wants to stay with the African champions for a long time.

“I’m committed to the team. It’s a team that gave me an opportunity when nobody knew me. So why should I now turn my back against them,” he told reporters.

“I love the team, I love my players, and congratulations to Yasser [Ibrahim] who scored two goals. I don’t see any reason that I can never be here for long. Football is about results, if we get the results, I don’t think you won’t stay.

“So coaches must get results in and when you win, when you get something it’s obvious that you will be around and I want to be here. I love the team.

“I’ve got a lot of support from the supporters also and they want me to stay. Even when we lost against Palmeiras, the support was really, really strong behind me, after a loss.

“So that really shows that I’m in a good team and I’m in the right place. I know where I am. It’s a big team. It’s a big club.

“Yeah, you will see me longer.”
