Pitso’s Al Ahly Collect Hard-Fought Win

Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly collected a hard-fought win to keep their perfect record going in the Egyptian Premier League.

Mosimane handed Tau his second start after his brace on his debut for the club, while Luis Miquissone also made the starting XI.

Hamdi Fathi had the first notable chance of the game in the 11th when he latched onto a cross but the ball was pushed around the post by Mahmoud El Zanfaly.

Tau almost scored his third goal of the season in the 18th minute but his flying header sailed past the post.

The visitors almost opened the scoring in the 29th minutes when Ali Lofty misjudged a cross but the following attempt bounced past the post.

Mosimane introduced last season’s top goalscorer Mohamed Sherif from the bench in the 52nd minute in an attempt to swing the tie to his side.

Al Ahly eventually opened the scoring in the 61st minute when Sherif poked the ball over the line following a poor save by the goalkeeper following a powerful shot from Ama El-Sulya.

Lofty kept his side’s slender lead alive with a fine stop of Mohamed Helal’s shot from inside the box in the 73rd minute.

Al Ahly almost scored a second in injury time but Hamdi Fathi’s shot only hit the inside of the post.

It was Al Ahly’s second win from two league games and they climbed back to the top of the log based on goal difference.
