South African tactician Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger moved second after beating Al Hilal 2-1 in their Group C CAF Champions League tie at Ali la Pointe Stadium on Friday night.
The home side wasted no time, taking the lead as early as the 15th minute through Moslem Anatouf who tapped home from close range from Zinedine Ferhat’s assist.
Ferhat then turned scorer with an absolute curler from the edge of the box in the 44th minute to make it 2-0.
The visitors were rewarded for their resilience in the 77th minute as Ahmed M’Bareck beat the offside track to slot past the onrushing Alger goalkeeper and reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Alger’s big win sees them move one point behind Hilal who are still in pole position.
