Shamase Becomes Latest SA Talent To Land Overseas Move

Banyana Banyana playmaker Thubelihle Shamase has landed her first professional contract signing abroad for FC Gintra Universitetas in Lithuania.

The former Sunflower WFC and the University of Johannesburg (Hollywoodbets Super League) talent has landed a move to Europe, following in the footsteps of Leandra Smeda, Jermaine Seoposenwe and Nothando Vilakazi who all plied their trade for the club.

“We had holes in the offensive line and worked hard to fill them at the beginning of the season. The South African national team is extremely good, and it is not easy for players to be invited to represent the national team,” sporting director Mantas Radavičius said.

“We are happy that Shamase can now be called a member of the team (FC Gintra), and we are looking forward to her debut.”

Thubelihle is the twin sister of Sphumelele Shamase who’s also a senior South Africa international and won the HSL Golden Boot with 22 goals in 25 games last season.
