Sundowns & Young Africans Starting XIs Confirmed

Mamelodi Sundowns and Young Africans have announced their starting line-ups for the DStv Premiership clash at New Peter Mokaba Stadium this evening.

Sundowns will be playing their 16th CAF Champions League quarter-final match in nine years. The 2016 CAFCL winners come to this match after playing a goalless draw against Yanga in Dar Es Salam a week ago.

Downs are under massive pressure as they are seen as massive favourites for this year’s competition after winning the inaugural African Football League, as they look to qualify for FIFA Club World as well.

The DStv Premiership champions will be without their midfielder Bongani Zungu and defender Mosa Lebusa, who suffered injuries and will be out for a few weeks. Sundowns aim to reach the CAFCL final for the first time since 2016.

Meanwhile, Young Africans are confident that they can make it to the next round, especially after holding Downs to a goalless draw at home. The Tanzanian champions only need a scoring draw to make it to the semi-final.

Mahlatsi Makhudubela who has previously played for Sundowns youth structures will return to South Africa for the first time since last season when he left Marumo Gallants.

These two sides are facing each other for the second time in the history of football. The first time was last weekend when they played a goalless draw.

Sundowns hasn’t lost a CAFCL home fixture since a 2-0 defeat against Algerian side CR Belouizdad back in April 2021.

Yanga wants to surpass the class of 1970 which was the last time that the club reached CAFCL quarter-final.

Here is how they line up:

Sundowns XI: Williams, Mudau, Kekana, Modiba, Lunga, Mokoena, Allende, Zwane, Ribeiro, Lorch, Shalulile

Subs: D. Onyango, Mvala, Mkhulise, Morena, Mendieta, Maseko, Sirino, Aubaas, Maema
