Bafana Bafana have been outlined as one of the favourites for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by Ivory Coast legend Yaya Toure.
The 2015 AFCON winner, who finished as runner-up on two occasions is currently serving as the assistant coach of the Saudi Arabia national team.
Widely considered as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, Toure has earmarked South Africa amongst five teams he backs to challenge for the title in his home country.
“It’s normal to have a preference for your own country. Côte d’Ivoire have a strong team and many talented and experienced players,” he told Canal+.
“But if I had to pick teams I think are favourites, I’d say Senegal, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau and South Africa. Their record in the qualifiers was impressive.”
Toure won the African Footballer of the Year award four times between 2011 and 2014
