10 ‘New’ Faces In Bafana Squad

There are a few new faces as well as several returnees to Hugo Broos’ preliminary Bafana Bafana squad.

The Belgian tactician announced a 32-man preliminary squad ahead of the double header against Congo Brazzaville next month.

Bafana currently sit in second spot of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group after starting the campaign with a 2-2 draw with Uganda and 3-2 win in South Sudan.

Both games saw late goals from Thalente Mbatha to save Bafana crucial points, and they will hope to play more controlled against Congo Brazzaville in the next two matches, where they could already seal qualification.

Broos recalled Ronwen Williams after he overcame his injury, and he is one of four goalkeepers in the preliminary squad, which will still be trimmed down to 23 names.

In defence, Bradley Cross has returned to the Bafana squad after starting his Kaizer Chiefs stint with a Man of the Match performance against Marumo Gallants, while Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Sesane received his maiden call-up.

His Pirates teammate Tshegofatso Mabasa has also returned to the squad after Broos had constantly overlooked the league’s top goalscorer from last season.

Meanwhile, Percy Tau is also among the returnees after he was left out of the previous squad by Broos.

Below are all changes compared to Broos’ final squad from the September games.

  • Ronwen Williams

  • Bathusi Aubaas
  • Sinoxolo Kwayiba
  • Luke Le Roux
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa
