Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana has broken his silence on his future with rumours continuing to swirl about a switch to one of South Africa’s ‘Big Three’.
Mokwana has had a stellar season at Babina Noko, scoring four goals and providing a further four assists in 25 DStv Premiership appearances, as they secured a top-four finish. His performances were recognised by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos who called him up for the two FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
He however only made his Bafana Bafana debut in a friendly match against Andorra in a 1-1 draw where he scored the equaliser.
He was also part of the Bafana squad that played to a 3-3 draw against Algeria in an international friendly, as he laid an assist for Iqraam Rayners for South Africa’s third goal on the night.
Speaking with Siya Gijana after the last match of the season against Chippa United, Mokwana mentioned that he would love to play abroad but did not rule out a move to SA’s ‘Big Three’ teams – Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I’ve always had dreams of playing abroad, it will depend on the chairman because I’m still contracted to Sekhukhune United so they are the ones to decide, the chairman is like a father figure to me,” he said.
When asked if he would be keen to join Pirates, Chiefs, or Sundowns, he remained coy, stating that if the chairman was happy to let him go then he would go.
“If the chairman agrees to that, who doesn’t want to play for the biggest three teams in South Africa? Everyone has a dream to play for them.”
The 24-year-old attacker joined Sekhukhune from Platinum City Rovers in 2022 and has now gone to cement a regular starting berth in the team.
