Bafana Bafana defender Ime Okon has unfortunately suffered an injury ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
South Africa will take on the Warriors and Amavubi in their last two crucial qualifying matches for the global showpiece set to be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada next year.
Okon, the 21-year-old centre-back, is part of the 45-member preliminary squad that was announced by head coach Hugo Broos last week.
He had to leave the pitch limping in the 34th minute as Hannover 96 beat Arminia Bielefeld 3-1 in the German Bundesliga 2 on Sunday afternoon.
He will undergo a medical test on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.
With the first of two matches taking place next week, it’s highly unlikely that Okon will be called up, as the final squad is expected to be announced this week.
Okon, who joined Hannover ahead of the start of the campaign from the now-defunct SuperSport United, has been playing regularly since the season began.
He has played eight matches in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.
