Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named a strong starting line-up for tonight’s 2025 AFCON Group B opener against Angola at Stade de Marrakech.
South Africa produced their finest showing in Côte d’Ivoire in the 2023 edition, finishing with a bronze medal after knocking out favourites and this year’s hosts Morocco on route.

Bafana have a healthy record against Angola coming into this tie though historic stats will count for nothing. In AFCON history, the two nations have met four times with South Africa holding an unbeaten record with two wins and two draws.
The Palancas Negras on the other hand have grown into a formidable side having qualified for three of the last four tournaments, only missing out in 2021. Angola have built a reputation as a stubbornly organised and well-drilled side.
At the last edition, they topped the group that included Algeria and Burkina Faso going as far as the quarterfinals and will pose a real threat for South Africa.
Here’s how both sides line-up:
Bafana Starting XI: Williams (c), Mbokazi, Ngezana, Mudau, Modiba, Mokoena, Sithole, Mbule, Nkota, Appollis, Foster
Subs: Chaine, Smith, Ndamane, Mbatha, Moremi, Mofokeng, Mokwana, Aubaas, Kabini, Goss, Makgopa, Campbell, Matuludi
Angola Starting XI: Hugo, Buatu, Mata, K. Gaspar, Maestro, Nzola, Gelson Ndala, To Carniero, Fredy, Luvumbo, Show
