Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has opted not respond to questions about the issue around Teboho Mokoena after he played against Lesotho despite a yellow-card suspension.
The Belgian mentor has guided South Africa to one of their most successful runs in history, with Bafana Bafana currently unbeaten in 18 successive games – a run dating back to January 2021 when they lost their Africa Cup of Nations opener to Mali.

Bafana picked up two crucial wins during this current international break to go five points clear of Rwanda in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
However, there is a dark cloud lingering over those brilliant achievements, as Bafana seemingly fielded Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho despite a yellow card suspension. The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder had picked up yellow cards in the World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Zimbabwe and should’ve sat out the next World Cup qualification match.
However, at this stage, it is unclear whether Lesotho fielded their complaint in time, or whether FIFA themselves will intervene in the issue.
Amid all the uncertainty, Broos opted to remain coy and did not want to give any comment on the issue.
“You understand that I am not giving any comments on this,” he said after his side’s 2-0 win over Benin.
“I hope the matter will be resolved in the coming weeks. But you will not hear anything from me, no comment.”
Even in case of a potential points deduction, Bafana would still stay ahead of Group C, which they currently lead with 13 points ahead of second-placed Rwanda with eight.
