Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos maintains that his charges remain on course to finish top of Group K when they take to the pitch against Uganda in their penultimate 2025 AFCON Qualifiers clash.
South Africa and Uganda were confirmed to have qualified for the next AFCON which will be hosted by Morocco next year after Congo Brazzaville lost to South Sudan 3-2 at Juba Stadium.
Broos becomes the first coach to lead Bafana to back-to-back AFCONs in the history of South African football. The last two games for Uganda and South Africa will determine who finishes top of the group.
The Belgiun mentor belives that a win against the Cranes this afternoon would put them in the driving seat to finish top, as they will face South Sudan in the last game of the group in Cape Town next week Tuesday.
“We are very happy that the qualification is done,” Broos told the media.
“It’s been a fantastic year for South African football after the bronze medal at the beginning of the year with another qualification for the next AFCON.
“On the other side, it does not change anything for the game tomorrow (today), there will be less stress we still have to win the game tomorrow. We want to win the game tomorrow; we want to be first in the group so that means we have to beat Uganda tomorrow, so it doesn’t change so much for us.
“I hope it will be a nice game, a great game, it’s a full house so there will be a lot of atmosphere in the stadium but that is only a motivation for the players.
“Let’s hope that the best team wins tomorrow (today).”
