Broos – It Was Not The Right Move For Appollis

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is happy that Oswin Appollis remained at Polokwane City and did not secure a move to North Africa.

Appollis has seen himself as a regular in the Bafana Bafana team after he was given an opportunity and took it with both hands. The City winger was in the headlines in the past few weeks having attracted interest from several teams including Algerian side MC Alger.

The move collapsed a weeks before the Premier Soccer League deadline day, with the 23-year-old also strongly linked to Kaizer Chiefs though that move did also not materialise.

During his Bafana Bafana squad announcement that will face Congo Brazzaville in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers double-header, Broos mentioned that he is happy Appollis’s move did not come to fruition.

“I’m disappointed that he didn’t move but I’m happy because if it was true he is going to Algiers,” Broos told SABC Sport.

“I said to him in September when we were in camp, I know there’s money but it’s not the right team for you. So, for that, I am happy that he is still in Polokwane City. He will always play there which is a good thing and again you see what happens with guy [Khanyisa] Mayo he is not playing.

“It’s a strange mentality in the North of Africa and it is not only your quality that is important it is also your mentality you have to adapt to that mentality and that is not easy.

“So, let’s hope the boys that are there start playing in the next month. I’m happy that Appollis is still here.”
