Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos made mention of positioning and immediate reaction as key elements that guided his side to a win over Lesotho.
Despite claiming a deserved 2-0 win in their 2026 FIFA World Cup over Likuena, the visitors made it difficult by being resolute at the back as the sides headed into the break deadlocked at 0-0.
The result took Bafana to the summit of Group C with 10 points, two points from second placed Benin who they face next week in Ivory Coast.
Broos said they needed to correct their positioning, fight for the second ball while maintaining pressure on their opponent which in turn paid off as the players responded immediately differently in the second stanza.
“I think there were a few details that made us or should I say come out of the dressing room better than we did the first half,” said Broos after the much-needed win.
“Just some details, question of positioning also when we lost the ball, immediately reaction we had in the first half, we had some moments that the reaction was not immediately there.
“Second ball we didn’t have in the first half, there were three, four, five, times that a long ball from us they recuperated the ball, and the ball fell in the midfield there was a desert. Nobody was there.

“So, we correct some things during half time and what make me happy on this group and I said it already before, when you ask them to do something, they try to do it. And in some cases, they succeed to do it.
“So now today, we did it immediately. There was more pressure forward. It was very difficult for Lesotho to do something, and they did something the first half but not so much but the second half, it was finished. They kicked the ball. They kicked the ball out. This is some sometimes details of positioning, and we did it very good the second half and I was very happy with the two goals.
“But at certain moment, you start doubting, on the post, on the post, it was like there was a wall in the goal and then we couldn’t go through. But okay, when there is so much pressure a goal has to fall and I’m happy that it fell and the second was nearly immediately after that and then you killed the opponent.”
