Broos Reacts To Panama Draw

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has insisted his team played a very good game against Panama but made a crucial mistake before Panama’s opener.

Edgar Bárcenas opened the scoring for Panama in the first half after a misplaced pass by Khuliso Mudau while Oswin Appollis leveled the scoreline in the second half.

After the final whistle, Broos was largely happy with his side’s display, but lamented the Panama opener as well as his side’s wastefulness in front of goal.

“I think there was a very good team on the pitch, the South African team played a very good game,” he said on SABC3.

“Over the 90 minutes, I think we have eight or nine chances, we played good football, there was depth in our game, the combinations were good, the positioning was good.

“Everything was good, except one thing, and that’s the goal we received. I said at half-time to the players, there is nothing wrong with kicking the ball in the stands when you’re under pressure.

“We try there also to come out in combination, but that was not a situation where we had to combine and come out, kick the ball in the stands and it’s over.

“The second chance they had was also a little bit too easy. We lose the ball and they could’ve had a second goal.

“But if you see all the chances we celebrated it is a pity that we didn’t win it.”
