Broos Responds To Mbule Criticism

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has responded to criticism on midfielder Sipho Mbule following first two matches at AFCON.

Mbule started against Angola and had a quiet outing, with many feeling he was largely ineffective for much of the match.

He then came off the bench against Egypt, with the opponents reduced to 10 men and Bafana dominating possession while chasing the game, yet again not making a strong impact in terms of creativity and chance creation.

Broos said he knows Mbule well and believes the player is experienced enough to recognise when he has not performed at his best.

He added that he would still speak to the Orlando Pirates midfielder about his performances in the two matches ahead of Monday’s clash with Zimbabwe.

“I think first of all, with Sipho, I’ve experienced enough, he knows also he’s good and when he’s not good,” said Broos.

“So, I will not talk today because today I think we have to let the players be and leave them and don’t make meetings or show them what was not good.

“I will have a little chat with him and see how he felt about the game of Egypt. And we will see what we can do in the game against Zimbabwe.

“We have to make the right choices but that’s what I’m going to discuss also first with Helman [Mkhalele] like we always do and we will see what we do.

“But I will see how Sipho is and do what I have to do.”
