Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has backed talented youngster Relebohile Mofokeng’s reported move to Belgian Pro League outfit Royale-Union St Gilloise.

The 21-year-old who is fresh from South Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign where they were eliminated by Canada at the Round of 32 is set for a big money move to Europe reported to be in the region of R70 million.

‘President Yama 2000’ showed glimpses of a promising future at the World Cup and is said to be on his way to Belgium after being spotted at the Los Angeles International Airport with an official believed to be from Union.

The Orlando Pirates winger will furthermore undergo a medical in Belgium scheduled for Thursday morning after club-to-club agreement is said to have been reached.

Broos, who has spoken highly of the youngster in the past and even urged his transfer overseas, has once again thrown his weight behind Mofokeng though he also made some admissions of his adaptation to the Belgian league.

“I think it’s a good thing for him, and he will progress, but we mustn’t expect that he will play from the first day,” Broos said, as per SABC Sport.

“I think he will progress, but Rele must be stronger, it’s a very tough competition in Belgium, and in the first five to six months they will work a lot on his physical strength.

“He’s a talented player, and once you have the power you need for such a competition, there will be no problem at all.”

The Vaal-born speedster recently completed a treble-winning season with the Buccaneers including their first Betway Premiership title in 14 years, the MTN8 as well as the Carling Knockout Cup.
