Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has expressed his gratitude to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for granting him request to start the camp two days earlier.
Bafana are set to play Congo Brazzaville on the 11th and 15th of October, with the Belgian mentor revealing at the squad announcement that the PSL agreed to his request to have players availed earlier due to the domestic calendar having just the MTN8 final this weekend.

Broos also admitted that the relationship with the league hasn’t always been great with PSL clubs not releasing players when the national team needed them. He is however happier with the fact that the league is starting to understand and support the national team agenda and it’s even evident in the team’s results.
“I’m happy that the PSL agreed with my request because there is no competition game,” said Broos on SABC TV.
“There is only the MTN final, so only the players of [Orlando] Pirates and Stellenbosch are playing on Saturday. So, for me that was the reason why I asked to start already the camp on Saturday so we can come together on Saturday.
“We fly to PE on the Sunday morning and we can already train on Sunday afternoon. So, if we should have been together on Monday, you lose two days so, again very happy and thank you for agreeing with my request.
“I’m happy about it because yes, I know I’ve had some difficulties with the PSL, but I think they understand now also that we do it for South African football we are not doing it for me. We are doing it for South African football. And you see what happens when you get the good results at AFCON and with the good results we did after we played suddenly there was interest.
“So, that’s what I meant before. Sometimes you have to do something for the national team and not always focus on PSL,” Broos further said.
