Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has praised of Racing Strasbourg striker Lebo Mothiba, because he offers the team something none of his other strikers do.
Mothiba returned to the national team for the first time since 2019 when he was part of Stuart Baxter’s side at the AFCON.
Two separate knee injuries severely stalled Mothiba’s career for club and country but it appears he’s back to the form that made him a fan favourite at the Ligue 1 club.
His form under Patrick Vieira earned him a recall under Broos and the 27-year old has impressed the Belgian tactician with his two bench cameos against Namibia and DR Congo, who suggested that Mothiba could be the missing puzzle in the Bafana team.
“Mothiba is the profile of player we don’t have. I’m very happy with what I saw, certainly here the half an hour, 20 minutes he played,” he told journalists.
“We don’t have a player like this. There will be games we need someone like him, strong keeping the ball, dangerous with the head, big.
“So, okay this was also a game to look at players that we didn’t know so well. Put him in the team and see what he gives.
“I think Mothiba was a positive thing.”
