Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has explained why he named Themba Zwane his captain in the absence of Ronwen Williams.
The latter is currently sidelined with injury, which left the armband vacant, with vice captain Percy Tau also not being named in the squad by the Belgian tactician.
Broos informed his team of his decision to go with Mshishi on Tuesday and explained his reasons during his matchday -1 press conference ahead of Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda.
“I decided to take Themba. Themba has the respect of all the group and even of the technical staff,” Broos said.
“So I think he’s the right man on the right place, and I hope he can give us or this team, the victories as a good example.
“With Ronwen, the last three year were very successful. So I hope that he can give us also tomorrow that victory, that needed victory.
“Because, again, those are qualifiers, it’s very important that you start good on those games, that you are not behind, that you can put the pressure on your opponents.”
