Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Doctor Khumalo is confident that the current national team squad can bring home the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title from Morocco later this year.
Hugo Broos’ charges have been drawn in Group B at the tournament and will open their account against COSAFA rivals Angola on 22 December, followed by a match against Egypt on Boxing Day, and conclude the group stage campaign against Zimbabwe on 29 December.

Last time out in the Ivory Coast, the 1996 champions finished third with Khumalo telling the media including iDiski Times’ Lethabo Kganyago in an interview carried in edition 222, Bafana discovered themselves at that edition, showed what they are capable of and have since been building on that performance.
“I think, from Ivory Coast, we had an edge in terms of going to the finals, but unfortunately, we lost in the semi-finals, through a penalty shootout,” said Khumalo.
“So, the boys raised their hands in Ivory Coast. This is where I realised that now our boys have actually managed to find their rhythm. They managed to find themselves who they are, and if any given time or chance, yes, they can bring it at home.
“They have played against the best of the best in Africa that play in Europe, and they didn’t give a damn. They didn’t give a damn if you’re playing for Chelsea, you play for Man United, or whatever. ‘I’m playing for Sekhukhune, I’m playing for Chiefs, for Pirates, but I’ll show you who we are’, and I support them. I think they can.”
