Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he didn’t consider calling up Gaston Sirino as a replacement for the injured Themba Zwane.
Sirino, 33, has had a fine start under Nasreddine Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs, and would be eligible to play for South Africa after recently receiving an SA passport.
Because he is uncapped for his home country, the Uruguayan could potentially represent Bafana, and could have potentially been a replacement for Zwane.
However, Broos insisted he doesn’t really fit into his playing idea and is also too old to come into consideration.
“No, I have to be honest,” he said on SABC1.

“I know that Sirino is a very good player. I know also that he can be very important for Chiefs but he’s not really the type of player I want.
“Secondly, he’s also 34, I think. I was looking for months to have somebody else for Themba because he was old that time. So I don’t go to take another older player.
“No, I want to find younger players than Sirino, even though he is a good player. But he doesn’t really match my ideas of football.”
