Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo says it doesn’t hurt him that players from his former side are not dominating Bafana Bafana like in his playing days.
Chiefs players have in recent years not been making the senior national team as they continue to struggle in ending their 10-year silverware drought.

Rushin Dortley, who arrived at the beginning of the current campaign, is the only player in Hugo Broos’ team and featured in all the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers as Bafana finished unbeaten at the top of Group K.
In a candid chat with iDiski Times editor Rob Delport in edition 183 of the newspaper, “Mdokies” said he understands why Chiefs hasn’t featured much as other sides like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates as the pair has enjoyed better days and are also competing in CAF inter-club competitions and domestic cup finals.
“No, it doesn’t hurt me,” Khumalo told iDiski Times.
“That’s the truth of the matter. And I mean, when we were dominating the national team with nine players, Chiefs supporters were happy. So why do we have to be like having a bad feeling about that?
“Do you know, the next game is in March against Benin, the 11th. And now, as a person that is involved with football, we think ahead, who was playing the final – Sundowns. Who’s in the Champions League – Sundowns and Pirates. Between January and March, that’s a critical phase of the PSL, there’s Champions League, to be in the top eight, to win the Nedbank – footballing problems, and then we have Benin.
“Two teams make Bafana now. Sundowns and Pirates. Which teams are going to be most involved? Sundowns and Pirates. Are we going to have legs for Benin? Have you ever thought about it?”
