Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo is not surprised to see Kaizer Chiefs players excluded from national team selection, making a claim that Thabo Cele still needs a few months.
Amakhosi have not been contributing players to the squad in numbers in recent seasons due to their struggles in the league.
Defender Rushwin Dortley, who joined the side this season, has enjoyed call-ups and appearing to be a regular in his position however couldn’t be called up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin this month because of injury.
Khumalo said he understands where coach Hugo Broos is coming from citing a few players that could be ready in the near future.
“At the moment I don’t think there is any player for now because your Mdu [Shabalala] your [Mfundo] Vilakazi,” said Khumalo on the DNA Podcast.
“Vilakazi is playing for the U20 national team. He is being selected for a national team that is a national team.
“[Thabo] Cele [still needs] another four, five months.”
