Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has waxed lyrical over Elias Mokwana, commending coach Hugo Broos for “finding a diamond”.
Mokwana, 24, made his Bafana debut during the current FIFA break, featuring in both matches and scoring the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Andorra, while he came off the bench in the exciting 3-3 draw with Algeria.
He again made an immediate impact as his shot after skipping past a few Algeria defenders was deflected into goal by Iqraam Rayners and the 3-2 was later credited to the Stellenbosch FC striker.
After the Sekhukhune United winger also impressed in his second game, Khumalo expressed his excitement over the winger, who is not scared to take players on.
“Hugo should be proud of himself because he found a diamond now in Mokwana,” he said on SABC3.
“Two games in a row, the boys is showing character, he’s positive, he’s goinf forward.
“There is nothing I like more than a wing player who can challenge defenders directly…. because that is the reason why we have wing players in order for them to isolate and this is exactly what we saw Mokwana do.
“I would’ve loved to see Mbanjwa but unfortunately he didn’t play him. Based on the two games, I think in Mokwana we found a diamond for Bafana Bafana.”
Mokwana, who joined Babina Noko from Platinum City in July 2022, has scored four and set up four more goals for his club so far.
