Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has praised Thalente Mbatha and Relebohile Mofokeng for their heroics from the bench against South Sudan.
South Africa were drawing 2-2 with the hosts in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier when Hugo Broos made some crucial changes by bringing on Mbatha, Mofokeng and Elias Mokwana in the 72nd minute.
Mbatha ended up scoring the late winner, but Khumalo was also left impressed by Mofokeng’s cameo.
“This game was a very difficult game, I thought we were just sail and that’s it,” Khumalo said on SABC1.
“What made us to be better is the composure and to believe in our abilities. We were playing to our strengths and not to the opponents strengths.
“And we have players we can introduce like Mokwana and Mofokeng, that changed the complexion of the game.
“That’s how the game is supposed to be, the bench is supposed to win games for you.
“I thought also Mofokeng on the left hand side, it paid dividends because Mofokeng is like an outright winger.
“But again credit to Mbatha because it seems like he’s our match winner.
“It raises the question – do we now have to rely on Orlando Pirates players because they played more competitive games.”
