Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo believes that Teboho Mokoena is able to carry the team like he did during his time.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has been an integral part of the Bafana squad under Hugo Broos where they have qualified for back-back Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and are on the edge of qualifying for next year in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Khumalo spoke to the media including iDiski Times journalist Lethabo Kganyago in an interview carried in edition 222. The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder was asked if he sees any player in the current squad that resembles him and he picked Mokoena saying he has been instrumental in carrying the team so far.
“Now, in the current crop, it’s not about player capacity or capability,” said Khumalo.
“I think it’s about having that individual that will carry the team. At the moment, I’m looking at a player like Teboho Mokoena. You have Teboho Mokoena; you have the core of the national team.
“I’m not saying he’s the only best player, but he’s the instrumental player in terms of directing traffic.
“He’s that kind of a player when we build up, he’s always there when we go forward, he’s there. So Teboho, at the moment, I would like to believe that he is the core in terms of the Bafana Bafana set-up.”
