Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ricardo Goss has given a composed verdict on South Africa’s scrappy win in the AFCON opener against Angola.
For a while, it appeared Bafana might open their AFCON campaign with a draw as the match remained locked at 1-1 approaching the 80th minute.

However, Lyle Foster struck late to secure maximum points. Goss revealed that Hugo Broos was unhappy with the first-half display, but his halftime talk boosted the team’s confidence heading into the second half.
Despite criticism of Bafana’s performance, Goss said the squad will not be too harsh on themselves, noting that it is still early in the tournament and nerves are to be expected at a major competition.
“We knew that we gave away a cheap goal but it’s still the early stages I guess,” Goss told SuperSport.
“We can’t be hard on ourselves, but we just need to be careful in our next coming game.
“The coach was motivating us in the change room and was a bit disappointed on us because we were a bit nervous.
“But obviously in a tournament like this, there are nerves.”
