SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt said he is sympathetic to Burnley and Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster after the announcement that he is taking a break from the game to take care of his mental health.
After missing three matches for his club, the side announced this week that the 23-year-old will be on an indefinite break to be in the care of specialists to give him support to get back to full health.
unit said though he doesn’t know the details of what happened he feels for Foster for what he is going through. The coach further appreciated the support that players are enjoying now as compared to his playing days.
“He just signed a five-year deal I don’t understand,” said Hunt. “I don’t know what’s happened there, I can’t comment because I don’t know.
“It’s really difficult to comment on something like that. But I know he just signed a five-year deal, he should be happy, shouldn’t he? He’s sorted for the rest of his life.
“I’m sure something has happened. I mean he must be going through something and it’s disturbing that’s why I’m saying something isn’t right.
“I feel for the boy you know, but I mean you’ll find these days you’ll get a lot more of those types of problems but in my day you were just told to just get on with it. There was no counselling.
“I mean if you look at football clubs in my time there was a manager and that was it. There was nothing, there were no media people there was no this and that. We never had a kit man in my days”
“In the football industry now there is a lot of support around the players. They’ve got agents now, we never had agents.
“We were told to sign or get out of the office you know what I mean. Something’s happened there I don’t know. Something’s going on there but I don’t know I’m not privy to what’s happened.”
