Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has reacted to persistent Bafana Bafana snubs, having been known as a regular before.

Over the past few years, Kekana had become a consistent presence in Hugo Broos’ squad and was part of the side that secured the bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

However, his situation changed in the middle of last year when Broos began leaving him out of the squad, and he ultimately missed out on the team that recently competed at AFCON in Morocco.

Asked whether the snub affects him, Kekana insisted his main focus remains on performing for Sundowns, who provide him with the platform to catch the national team’s attention.

“Yeah, I think my primary focus is definitely Mamelodi Sundowns, they are the ones that give me the platform to get selected by the national team,” said Kekana.

“Right now, I think my primary focus is Mamelodi Sundowns.”

Looking ahead to their CAF Champions League clash against Stade Malien this evening, Kekana says the team is full of confidence following their strong run of results and fully understands the importance of the encounter.

“As players, we’re in good spirit, the confidence is high,” he added.

“We know the stakes are high especially going into the stage of the Champions League. We know what’s expected.

“But I think we’ve prepared quite well. Everyone is gonna go into tomorrow’s game fully focused and knowing what’s at stake and what’s expected from us. We will do our best.”
