Khanye Makes Makgopa Admission

Junior Khanye has admitted that Bafana Bafana forward Evidence Makgopa deserves credit for his important goal against Morocco.

The 23-year-old Limpopo-born forward has received criticism from the public and pundits alike, including Khanye himself before the tournament kicked off.

But he has featured in all of South Africa’s matches at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast so far and scored the opener in the 2-0 victory over Morocco in Last 16.

Khanye says, though he is not a big Makgopa fan, the Orlando Pirates man must be congratulated, adding that he hopes the performance inspires the striker to get more goals for the team at the tournament.

“Compliments to the boy, I know I’m not a fan but in this situation give credit where it’s due,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.

“When we criticise it is not to fight with the boy and compliments to him for that good finish, good run from a tight angle.

“He squeezed the ball and it went in [the net] and I’m sure this will boost his confidence and he will want to score more, especially in the national team.

“But otherwise compliments to Bafana Bafana, I never thought they’d beat Morocco. Morocco didn’t take their chances, especially in the second half and that penalty they missed.

“We didn’t create more but we took our chances and tactically coach Hugo Broos got it right and the players fought.

“I saw their fighting spirit in this game they won with their fighting spirit and individual brilliance.”
