Khanye Praises ‘Individual Brilliance’ Of Two Bafana Stars

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has applauded Hugo Broos and Bafana Bafana for qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast before hailing two Bafana stars.

Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena were on target as South Africa eliminated a more-fancied Morocco side 2-0 in San Predo on Tuesday night to set up a last-eight meeting with Cape Verde.

Bafana’s AFCON campaign started with a loss but the team went on to finish second in Group E with four points to get to the second round.

Khanye admits that he had not given Broos’s charges a chance against the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists but complimented them for getting the tactics right and an overall job well done thanks to the individual brilliance of Teboho Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa.

“South Africa deserves to be complimented they took their chances,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.

“It was a beautiful game. A beautiful game, one team was tactically spot on – I’m referring to South Africa – and their game plan worked.

“They took their chances very well and they also managed to not concede any goal, so the South African defence did very well, especially [Teboho] Mokoena, centrally.

“And individual brilliance won us this game. We need to be honest, Mokoena did very well and even Evidence [Makgopa], one chance and he finished it, so individual brilliance won the game.”
