Khune Slams Keeper Over Mbule Goal

Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has slammed Ghana’s keeper for his poor all-around defending of Sipho Mbule’s goal.

The Orlando Pirates midfielder, who was again employed as No.10 by Hugo Broos, scored the only goal of Bafana’s friendly win over Ghana’s CHAN team with a stunning strike.

Khune, though, despite praising Mbule and his strike, had harsh words for Ghana shot stopper Lawrence Osei.

“Before I got to the keeper, we saw how confident Sipho was,” he stated on SABC.

“As a no.10 he picked up the ball from no.6 position, but look at where Makgopa is. Makgopa is not a no.9, he dropped in and the defence focusses on the no.9, then it opened up for Sipho and what a great strike.

“But the goalkeeper, poor footwork, poor everything. His position is also poor because you can’t dive using both your hands.

“As a goalkeeper there is a certain height where you’re supposed to use one hand, either the bottom hand or the top hand to make a safe.

“He went with both and that didn’t give him enough reach.”
