Kutumela Makes Bafana Claim

Richards Bay striker Thabiso Kutumela is yearning to make a return to the Bafana Bafana fold, saying age won’t be a hindrance.

Kutumela, 31, became a hot prospect during his days at Baroka FC which subsequently earned him a spot in the South African team that went to the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio. He was also part of the first Bafana team to be selected by head coach Hugo Broos when the Belgian mentor arrived in South Africa.

Speaking to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu, in edition 168 of the newspaper, Kutumela says he hopes to find his scoring boots again to aid his new club, the Natal Rich Boyz, in the Betway Premiership so as to earn his place back in the national team.

“Age is just a number,” Kutumela told iDiski Times.

“I still want to play for Bafana Bafana. When they qualified for AFCON, when coach Hugo Broos came to South Africa, I was in the first squad against Angola. I came on as a sub at Orlando Stadium and made an assist, and we won 2-1 against Angola.

“So, I feel like I still want to play for Bafana Bafana. I still want to go back.”

The Limpopo-born forward further said he has also been encouraged by the performances of the team recently, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns man saying it gives him confidence.

“Confidence in yourself, belief in yourself, and playing for the country and not yourself, that’s it.”
