Lakay Shares Views On Recent Broos Snubs

Pyramids FC striker Fagrie Lakay says he doesn’t know what happened for him to be snubbed from the national senior teams’ recent camps.

The last time Lakay was with Bafana-Bafana was in November 2022 in the 1-1 draw against Angola.

The 26 year old is having a good spell in Egypt having helped them finish second in the League last season and qualify for the CAF Champions League. This season he has played 10 matches in all competitions and scored two goals.

Talking to iDiski Times in the latest edition of the newspaper Lakay joked that he would also like to know why he hasn’t been called up to Bafana but emphasised that he will let his work speak for him as far as his return to the squad is concerned.

“I don’t recall anything happening,” Lakay told IDiski Times.

“I just remember like you said the last time when they had a camp, I was out injured and after that, I didn’t go again. So I don’t know. I would like to know (laughs). As a player, I’m not someone to speak a lot.

“I believe instead of talking, I can only go out there and work hard and let what I do on the field talk for me. So that will not change, that’s all I will do and that’s all that I can do, but I’m not here to say whatever.”

The former Cape Town City man also hopes that the CAF Champions League exposure works to his advantage to make the team again.

“Ja. It’s the biggest cup in Africa. So it’s good exposure for any player to play in the Champions League. And also it’s the best team’s in Africa”

“So for me as a player, and for us as a team, we’re happy to play in the Champions League and like they say, in order to test yourself, you have to test yourself against the best”
