Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Cassius Mailula has finally scored his first goal for Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.
Mailula has been struggling to make a breakthrough into the Toronto starting line-up, as he had made only one appearance for the side since completing his move from Sundowns in July 2023.
The Sundowns development player also lost his place in the Bafana Bafana squad following a lack of game-time at the club level.
Two months ago, Toronto head coach John Herdman mentioned that it is difficult for the South African to play as he is competing with Italian Federico Bernardeschi and former Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne.
Mailula made a rare start for the Canadian side against Simcoe County Rovers in a Canadian Championship clash.
The 22-year-old grabbed the opportunity with both hands and scored the second of the match in the 30th minute, as Toronto won 5-0 to advance to the next stage of the competition.
The Canadian Championship is known as the Voyageurs Cup and it is played by 14 Canadian teams only. Toronto has won it for the record eight times since its existence in 2008.
