Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele is incredibly proud of former player Evidence Makgopa, comparing the lanky striker to the late Phil Masinga.
Makgopa broke into professional football at the Limpopo club, before his move to Orlando Pirates.
Speaking in the latest edition of iDiski Times, Mphahlele told Lethabo Kganyago just how proud he is of Makgopa, who scored against Morocco in the last sixteen.
Makgopa was an ever-present in Hugo Broos’ selection throughout the tournament, starting all seven games that Bafana played enroute to finishing third at the tournament in Ivory Coast.
“God got his plans, and we are very much proud, we are excited, we are happy,”
“When I watched Bafana, I just wanted them to give the ball to Makgopa so that he could do what we know he can do – score the goals.
“Because Makgopa is the next Phil Masinga of our South African football.”

“Both of them are using their strength which is the height,” said Mphahlele of the comparison between Makgopa and Masinga.
“The way they run, it looks similar, and they are very good in the air as well. I think Makgopa can even do better locally and internationally because he is improving in each game he plays there.”
