Mbatha Rescues Bafana Again

Bafana Bafana recorded their first Group K 2025 AFCON Qualifiers win with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over South Sudan at Juba National Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The home side were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute which Tito Odong Okello tucked away to make it 1-0 after Siyabonga Ngezana brought him down.

Bafana responded almost immediately with Oswin Appollis finding the top corner in the 20th minute after being teed up by Aubrey Modiba.

Lyle Foster missed an opportunity to give Bafana the lead in the 27th minute, directing his header at Majak Mawith.

In the 33rd minute, Teboho Mokoena skied his effort from inside the box with only Mawith to beat.

Modiba unleashed a thunderous set-piece in the 39th minute but Mawith was up to the task tipping it over the bar.

Bafana were denied the lead when Khuliso Mudau struck the crossbar in the 44th minute.

Appollis got his brace on the stroke of halftime, as Bafana went into the break leading 2-1.

The home side made it 2-2 in the 57th minute from a deadball situation through Valentino Yuel.

In the 75th minute substitute Relebohile Mofokeng could only watch his scuffed shot sail past the face of the Sudanese goal.

Three minutes later Mofokeng tried his luck from close range, but Mawith parried his shot out for a corner.

Elias Mokwana was denied in a one-on-one situation by an onrushing Mawith in the 82nd minute.

With the tie heading for a stalemate, substitute Thalente Mbatha came off the bench to unleash another left-footed shot from the edge of the box for the second match running and hand the visitors all three points.
