Amajita head coach Raymond Mdaka has broken his silence on the matter regarding his now much-publicised salary, saying he cannot help it if people want to speak about it.
Mdaka led the national U20 men’s side to the COSAFA Cup glory last year and qualified for the U20 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt this year, where they won the cup and subsequently qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup to be hosted in Chile in September 2025.
Since the team’s return from Egypt a former SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok revealed in the media that Mdaka earns R25 000 per month – a comment that has led to the Portfolio Committee for Sport in Parliament to demand an explanation from SAFA bosses, as the difference between his and Hugo Broos’ earnings is far apart.
SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao told Parliament that Mdaka earns somewhere between R25 000 and R50 000 though not giving the actual figures.
The former Marumo Gallants coach spoke to the media after his home coming event and AFCON trophy parade by the Greater Tzaneen municipality in Tzaneen on Thursday where he said he has no control on what people talk about and he’s leaving everything up to nature.
“Yeah well most of the things can come up,” said Mdaka.
“You know I suppose you need to have that heart of accepting some of the things more especially if they are not in your hands.
“You cannot stop people from talking much as how they speak to you, others it might be quite disturbing, others might be pleading with you and all this other things.
“But these are the things that we don’t normally focus on. We just allow it as it is and nature will sort it out.”
Meanwhile the municipality also donated R35 000 to the Ray Mdaka Foundation as part of the way they are showing appreciation for the coach and his work. Mdaka said the money will help with the upcoming tournament he is hosting for local schools in the area next weekend.
