Fresh from the MTN8 triumph, Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa hasn’t given up on a return to the Bafana Bafana fold despite being snubbed in the latest squad.

Mabasa last played for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup more than a year ago and he finished the campaign with three goals after four games. Since then, he has scored 25 goals more than any other Pirates striker.

The Botshabelo-born marksman was again amongst the goals as Pirates beat Stellenbosch 3-1 for a record three consecutive MTN8 trophies at a packed-to-rafters Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Despite firing on all cylinders, he has continuously been overlooked by Hugo Broos as he missed the 2023 AFCON finals which was played in Ivory Coast and has thus far missed both the AFCON and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking with the media after the MTN8 final win over Stellenbosch, Mabasa mentioned that he will continue scoring goals and it will happen if it happens.

“Coming to the national team issue or topic it will happen, if God wants it to happen it will happen,” Mabasa told the media after they won the MTN8.

“I will just continue to put the ball into the back of the net and continue to work hard at training because I know that I have the support of my teammates.

Everyone keeps telling me you have to head up, continue to work hard it will happen.”
