Pitso Makes Chiefs Claim

Astute South African tactician Pitso Mosimane reckons Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns’ strong run helps simplify Hugo Broos’ work and he believes Kaizer Chiefs will soon contribute too.

The recent history of South African football has been scripted by the success of the Brazilians and the Buccaneers.

Masandawana have monopolised the league, achieving a dominant run of eight straight titles while Ezimnyama Ngenkani have carved out their own niche, establishing themselves as the “cup kings” through consistent success in cup competitions.

Beyond club glory, both teams’ star-studded squads provide the backbone for Bafana, playing a vital role in the national team’s achievements.

Mosimane believes Bafana’s playing style is a blend of how Sundowns and Pirates play. He believes it eases the burden for the Belgian tactician.

The former Sundowns coach is hopeful that Kaizer Chiefs will soon rise again and contribute as strongly as the other two clubs of the famous ‘big three’.

“You can see Pirates are doing well, they are playing in Africa, you see their players with Bafana, Sundowns always help with players,” said Pitso during La Liga’s celebration of its 10th year in Africa.

“The style of play of Bafana is exactly what you see at Pirates, what you see at Sundowns. It benefits the national team.

“The coach [Broos] doesn’t have to do much, the style is there, it’s embedded from Pirates, from Sundowns.

“I think Chiefs will follow very soon, and then we are winning. The coach has really, really done exceptionally well, selecting the players and giving them confidence.

“And the boys are doing well, so you can see the style of play of Bafana, that’s where you say national pride from the clubs.”

Mosimane added that Bafana now have to be consistent, having done well in the past five years with Broos.

“So, we’re good and we have been good, not as consistent as we are now with all the generations. The issue is, can we keep it there? Let’s avoid the deep, what must we do to avoid it?,” he asked.

“So, that’s the most important thing because you can be good and stay right there but staying there for a long time, it’s cold at the top but we can.”
