Rele & Adams Send Bafana Top

Bafana Bafana beat Lesotho 2-0 thanks to first goals by Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams to move to the top of Group C.

Mofokeng had the first good chance after a long pass by Teboho Mokoena and a superb first touch but his shot missed the goal after seven minutes.

Percy Tau had a shot from a tight angle after 24 minutes, but it only hit the side netting.

Nkosinathi Sibisi saw a header from a corner saved off the line after 34 minutes, while Lyle Foster missed from close range following a cross by Kuliso Mudau in the 44 minute.

Bafana almost opened the score two minutes in the second half but Foster was denied by the post – from there the ball bounced against the back of Lesotho goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane, hit the other post before crossing the goalline.

Just three minutes later Mofokeng had a shot from inside the box saved by Moerane, who managed to keep Bafana out once again.

Bafana finally found the opener after Mofokeng was tied up by Elias Mokwena and calmly slotted home to score his first national team goal after 60 minutes.

Again just two minutes later, the Lesotho keeper hit the ball against the onrushing Percy Tau but the ball again bounced against the post.

But Bafana were on fire now, and Jayden Adams made it 2-0 with his first international goal after beautiful interplay via the right flank after 63 minutes.

Tau and Iqraam Rayners had late chances to add to the score-line but their shots sailed over the bar.

The win saw Bafana move to 10 points from five games, two ahead of Benin. They replaced Rwanda at the top of the log after The Wasps lost 2-0 to Nigeria and remained on seven points. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles moved to six points after collecting their first win of this qualification.
