Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker says Jayden Adams’ call-up to the senior national team is well deserved.
The midfielder has played eight matches in the DStv Premiership this season for Stellies where he has scored two goals and assisted one so far and two matches in the Carling Cup where he has one assist.
He has earned a call-up to the Bafana-Bafana preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda with Barker saying this is a great opportunity for Adams who is one the best players the coach has ever worked with.
“It’s a well-deserved opportunity I’ve always said he’s one of the best players that I’ve worked with,” said Barker.
“A really talented footballer you know gives everything on the ball, off the ball, aerially strong in attack and defence you know he’s calm.
“He shows that quality. I think everyone could see the quality of the first goal that was created a nice turn, a little one-two, the presence of mind to find Rayners in the box.
“So yeah deserved and hopefully soon he can make the final squad but at least he’s knocking in and around the team and performances like this can only enhance his value.”
The 22-year-old himself is also happy to have been considered saying he did not expect any of it.
“I didn’t expect it but ja I’m in the team I’m just going to work harder it doesn’t stop here take it game for game.
“I think I have a good sense because I perform and I take it game for game and get assists.”
